ipmPIPE Mission & Vision The ipmPIPE is a pest mapping and forecasting system that was developed by the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and its land-grant partners, along with Animal Plant Health Inspection Service and Risk Management Agency. It was initially developed as part of the effort to manage soybean rust as it spread across the southern United States. The system provides a network of crop pest monitors (primarily Extension specialists) working together to find, report, and track key pests, pushing information to growers for responsible and timely treatments for each pest. The ipmPIPE includes links to a number of PIPEs each focusing on a particular set of crops and pests. The ipmPiPE program has ended but some of the PIPEs are still active while others have been discontinued. The websites below were part of the ipmPIPE system: Soybean Rust Legume Cucurbit Downy Mildew SBR is an important disease of soybean and other legumes The Legume PIPE addresses several diseases of common beans, and cool and warm season legumes CDM is a disease pest of cucurbits (cucumbers, watermelon, pumpkins, etc.) Pecan Onion Southern Corn Rust This site contains two components: a real-time prediction map and an IPM Toolbox. The Onion PIPE addresses several diseases and insect pests of onions. Southern rust of corn is caused by the fungus Puccinia polysora . A New Project A new project funded by the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), the integrated Pest Information Platform for Extension and Education (iPiPE) has integrated parts of the soybean rust, legume and southern corn rust pipe.
